The Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetics Guild describes handcrafted soap as “a blend of both science and art.” I couldn’t agree more or describe it better.
I am a pharmacist and most enjoy working in a niche area of pharmacy where medications are still compounded in a lab. Quality and accuracy are deeply ingrained in me. But let’s face it, pharmacy is only so much fun. In the 20+ years that I’ve practiced, I’ve enjoyed turning to relaxing and creative hobbies like cooking, photography, scrapbooking, cake decorating, woodworking and painting. When I tried out soap making I was hooked. It is the perfect match of science and creativity. But what really sealed the deal for me was my hands. Before my soap they were always cracked and dry no matter what I did. After just a couple of weeks using my handcrafted soap, that cracking and peeling was gone.
That difference comes from the quality natural oils, fats and botanicals coupled with the age-old process of soap making that leaves glycerin in the soap. All of these things work in harmony to hydrate and protect skin (our most important organ) better than commercial soaps.
Natural products do cost more than synthetic products so handcrafted bars do cost more than commercial bars. I’m confident that once you give them a try you’ll find that the overall cost difference is well worth it.
My pharmacy background also gives me an awareness of the challenges that people with allergies and sensitivities experience. Making my own soaps allows me to provide wonderful products for those people also.
Most importantly, I love it! It’s so much fun to cut a bar of soap and see how beautiful it is. I love trying new combinations. If you have a need or interest in something please ask. Nothing makes me happier than meeting a need for someone.
